Is herbal tea real tea?
What a lot of people get confused about is herbal blends(also known as Tisane) being the same as tea also known as Camellia Sinensis.
The difference is that true tea is made from the leaves of the plant camellia sinensis, most commonly known as the tea plant, while herbal blends are made of using a combination of spices, flowers, dried fruits, bark and leaves belonging to edible, non-tea plants.
So herbal tea is not technically a true tea because it does not come from the tea plant. The tea that comes from the Camellia Sinensis plant is Black tea, Green tea, White tea, Oolong Tea, Pu-erh and Yellow tea. What gives each one their distinctions the process each one undergoes. We'll get into that at another time.
Herbal blends have been around for centuries. With the ancestors who lived before us they used the roots, plants, spices, seeds all the wonderful things Mama Godu (Mother Earth) provided in their environments to create tinctures, herbal blends and medicines to heal and elevate the body. Herbal blends were also utilized for their ability to conjure up a sense of calm and spiritual awareness and connection to the ancestors. Then over time, people began drinking herbal teas simply for their incredible taste and fragrance.
